Ylang Ylang Essential Oil Benefits

 

It takes 5 years for the Ylang Ylang tree to start blossoming.  Producing 45 lbs of flowers each year, these trees will continue to bloom for 40 – 50 years!Harvest begins at night when the scent is at its peak, Ylang Ylang flowers start to lose their scent once exposed to light. It takes on average 50 pounds of fresh flowers to yield 16 ounces of essential oil.

An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing easily evaporated chemical compounds from plants.  They do not sit on the surface of the skin; they soak through and go right into the blood stream. This is why it is so important to use high quality essential oils. It’s also why they have the power to alter the way we feel in such a short period of time.

Many Essential oils contain chemicals so you want to do what you can to make sure you are getting a pure essential oil. Young Living and Doterra are widely considered to be the best.

Ylang Ylang means “Flower of Flowers” and has a distinct aroma that is difficult to describe.  The heady fragrance has been likened to both narcissus and jasmine. Ylang Ylang brings a sense of calm to the nervous system. Ylang Ylang can be used neat and needs no dilution with a carrier oil. This soothing essential oil is great for the skin.  This does not mean that Ylang Ylang lacks to the power to heal many ailments…. 

It’s most famously known as an aphrodisiac, however Ylang Ylang is also used to prevent infections and treat fevers. In places like Vietnam and the Phillipines they would infuse the flowers with coconut oil. Ylany Ylang was used to treat malaria, typhus, intestinal tract infections, and epilepsy.

There are 5 classifications of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil: Ylang Ylang Extra which is top grade, Ylang Ylang I, II III, which refers to the number of times the oil was distilled. And Ylang Ylang Complete which is often a blend of Ylang Ylang I and II. And absolute is also produced by solvent extraction, which has a long-lasting floral scent.

Ylang Ylang is said to reduce high blood pressure and decrease rapid heartbeat due to its ability to reduce stress hormones in the body. A single drop or less rubbed in the palms and inhaled will induce and sense of calm and reduce anxiety.  Side effects of Ylang Ylang can very. It’s a mild oil that can be used neat. If you notice a sensitivity to it then simply dilute with a carrier oil like jojoba. The main way to avoid feeling nauseas or lightheaded when using Ylang Ylang is to avoid using too much. And make sure you are using a good quality essential oil.

Ylang Ylang has been used to treat everything from the symptoms of PMS to much more series aliments. This pleasant aromatic plant is a powerhouse in disguise, however you should never stop medication without seeking medical advice.

Ways to use Ylang Ylang Essential Oil:

Simply add a small small drop to you palms, rub together and inhale slowly

Rub one drop into the reflex point on your feet.

Add 2-3 drop to a warm bath
